This book will warm the hearts of both young and “older” kids (read: seniors!) who love pets. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Prince Tadpole and Princess Clara, and know that the children in my life will be enchanted, enriched, and educated by the many lessons this tale holds. I began reading it aloud to an 8 year old client (I practice tele-therapy) and he was immediately captivated. It is warm, thoughtful, charming, and a down-home read written by a real person for real people. The conversations between the pets (Nana Molly, Mama GiGi, Tadpole, Sarah Jane, and Freckles) are imaginative and adorable. I am very happy to recommend it! It’s especially heartwarming to know that the proceeds go to benefit other animals that have been rescued. – Lisone
An abandoned cat appears on the doorstep of a single mom and her tween. The financial and physical responsibilities of pet ownership are compounded when the pregnant cat gives birth to a dwarf. The characters – both human and animal- are charming, yet realistic. The ending leaves me hoping for a second book in a series. This children’s book can be enjoyed by animal lovers of any age. – Kimberly, Verified Reader
There are many lessons tucked in this story about a rescued cat and her a tiny kitten although it isn’t ever preachy. Children can learn that dumping an unwanted pet on the side of the road leads to suffering for the animal, that being different isn’t necessarily bad, and that pet ownership takes commitment and a certain level of financial responsibility. Readers will fall in love with Tadpole, the dwarf kitten, and root for his happy life. – Carolyn
A sweet story for animal lovers of all ages, that of a single selfless gesture to help a homeless cat who transforms lives and leaves the reader wondering who rescued who. An unusual tiny kitten and his youngest human truly do become royalty within their small kingdom. A great read for anyone who has ever rescued or assisted in the care of homeless animals, this little book offers an interesting view through the eyes and thoughts of animals. Some interesting twists caught me, a voracious reader totally off-guard and I hope there might be a follow-up book to continue the journey! – SL
